How to compare job offers properly

The biggest number on an offer letter is rarely the whole story. Two offers in Rigo with the same salary can be worth very different amounts once you add the bonus you can realistically expect, any shares or equity, and benefits such as pension contributions, insurance or extra leave. Offer Genius adds them up into one total yearly value so you compare like with like.

How the score works

The score is a weighted average you control. Pay compares each offer's total yearly value with the highest offer you entered (the highest scores 100). Every other factor uses your own 1–5 rating: 1 scores 0, 5 scores 100 and "not rated" counts as 50. Each factor is multiplied by its slider weight and the total is divided by the sum of the weights. Nothing is hidden and nothing comes from outside data — change a slider and you see exactly why the order changes.

Negotiating with confidence

Get every offer in writing, decide your walk-away number before you talk, and ask for specific things: a higher base, a signing bonus, an earlier pay review, extra leave or remote days. Check typical pay for the role in the salary benchmarks and your take-home pay in the tax calculator.

Is the AI advice based on market salary data?

No. The AI only sees the offers and priorities you enter, and it is told not to quote market rates or statistics. Use it to structure your thinking and your counter-offer email, and check pay levels yourself. Each request uses one AI request from your plan's monthly allowance.

How should I value equity or shares?

Take the value of the grant you are offered and divide it by the number of years it vests over. For a start-up, many people count it at a fraction of that, or at zero, because it may never be worth anything — be cautious.
